

She was born to James Gibbs Spiller and Marcella Damerau Spiller on February 11, 1943, in San Diego, California. Eleanor graduated from Travis High School in 1961 and received a BA in Education from St. Edward’s University in 1986. She and her husband, Ron Davis, settled outside of Elroy, Texas in 1974, where they lived together until her passing.
Eleanor was a devoted elementary school teacher, passionate about teaching children to read, who taught in Bastrop County for twenty-one years. Having led a deaf choir, she later incorporated simple signs in teaching reading and counting. Additionally, she served several years as NEA’s Bastrop Teachers’ Association president.
Eleanor was an active member of Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop and St. Ignatius in Austin, where she taught CCD and RCIA classes, as well as belonging to the Bastrop Emmaus group and ‘Christ Renews His Parish’ at St. Ignatius.
She is survived by her mother Marcella Spiller, her sister Margot Spiller, her brother James Spiller, her husband, Ronald Ray Davis, her two children, Ruby Mates of Elroy, and Don Davis of San Antonio, and by her four grandchildren.
The Rosary service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 25 and the funeral mass at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 26. Both at St. Ignatius Martyr church in Austin. More details available at http://eleanors.life
