Elinor Erna “Mimi” Stelzer Blakney was born on February 11, 1923 to Reverend Frederick and Sidonie Stelzer in Thorndale, Texas. She was baptized March 1, 1923 and confirmed in the spring of 1936 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by her father who was the minister there for 40 years. A tomboy growing up, she continued to love spending time outdoors throughout her life. She was an athlete and outstanding student in school. She graduated from high school with honors and attended Austin Business School. During WWII, she took a job at the Pentagon. She met Stan Blakney on the train to DC. They married on July 18, 1943 and had four children. They enjoyed all different kinds of music and dancing and, together, they traveled to many countries around the world. Elinor’s love for our Lord was evident in the way she loved and cared for other people. She loved to share the blessings given to her with others. Even as dementia took so many of her memories, Elinor never forgot how much she loved her family. For the last couple of years, she received extraordinary care by Nancy Luongo and the loving staff and residents at Our House in Leander as well as Debbie Williams, a caregiver and sweet friend. Elinor’s faith was made sight on Saturday, June 20 surrounded by close family. Elinor will be greatly missed by her friends and family, but we rejoice in the confidence that she is with her Redeemer.
