

Elizabeth (Betty) Gene Brewer McDonald of Austin, Texas, died peacefully on Monday, April 26, 2010, at age 85, of natural causes. She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on January 16, 1925, to Walter and Mabel Brewer. She was elected Homecoming Queen of Minden High School, Minden, Louisiana, and graduated Valedictorian in 1941. She earned her B.A. degree from Louisiana State University. In 1945, she married Stephen McDonald, who served as a professor and later, chairman of the Department of Economics, the University of Texas at Austin. They were married 60 years, until his death in 2006. She was a very active woman, and enjoyed sewing for her two daughters, reading and doing genealogy research. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club, Northwest Hills Garden Club and University Ladies Club. When Steve retired, they enjoyed travelling and spending summers at their home in Estes Park, Colorado. She is predeceased by her husband, Stephen. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Worchel and husband, Harvey, daughter Kathryn McGlothlin, granddaughter Jenna Worchel Holmes, grandson Michael Worchel, and great-grandson Carson Holmes, all of Austin. A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 1st at 11:00a.m., at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G.
