Eloisa Martinez Luna, 76, born July 4, 1927 in Corpus Christi to Felix and Josefina Cano Martinez, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2003, in Austin, Texas. Eloisa is survived by her son, John Thomas (Tommy) Luna and wife Laura; granddaughter, Marisa Luna; uncle, Refugio Cano and wife Alice and their children, all of Austin, Texas; and aunt, Juanita C. Fuentes, and many cousins, all of Corpus Christi and Austin. Eloisa was born and raised in Corpus Christi, where she graduated high school and later business college. She began a long career in the real estate business, specializing in the title and closing departments. Her career started at Guaranty Title & Trust in Corpus Christi, until moving to Austin in 1954, with her aunts, Carolina and Modesta Cano. She was very active in the Catholic Church, joining many church groups. She was a member of St. Ignatius Church, and later, San Francisco Javier Church. She continued her business career with Austin Land and Title, later moving to Transamerica Title, the Law offices of Jerry Swaggert, and finally the General Land Office with the TX Land Commission under Gary Mauro. She left many close and loyal friends behind. She was a very giving, loving person. Eloisa was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 25 years, Ronnie Luna. She was very supportive of Ronnie, who was an attorney with the State of Texas, and a distinguished political figure. They met in Austin in 1963 while he was still in Law school at the University of Texas, and married in 1964. Ronnie always joked to family and friends, that to receive Eloisas hand in marriage, he had to first convince her strict catholic aunts of his intentions. He got their approval after gifting them with a King James Bible. Little did they know, it was compliments of the Holiday Inn. After marriage, they had a son, Tommy, which made the circle complete. Family life was wonderful and eventful, with many unforgettable memories. Along with the stress and hectic hustle and bustle of jobs in the city, calmness and relaxation came at the end of the day by spending it at the farm in Creedmoor. Tragic loss came to the family when Ronnie died in 1988 of a heart attack. Eloisa continued on, with her son Tommy by her side. In her later years, diabetes along with a stroke got the best of her. She was continually and lovingly cared for by family and friends at her home in Austin. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jerry Vandel and staff, Hill Country Home Health, and Odyssey Hospice for their care and support. Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m., Friday, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Mass will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, October 4, 2003, at St. Ignatius, Martyr Catholic Church, Father Joseph A. Tomei, CSC, as celebrant. Interment will follow at the State Cemetery on East 7th Street, in Austin. Arrangements by Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress, Austin 442-1446.
