

Emogene Sones Tracy passed away at the age of 90 on August 8, 2024, in Austin, Texas. Born in 1934, in Mississippi, Emogene was known for her grace, elegance, and determination, qualities that she carried throughout her life. She viewed obstacles as challenges to overcome and touched many lives with her kindness, encouragement, and strength.
While teaching at a Houston High School, she met fellow teacher Robert G. Tracy. They married in 1960 and had two children, Pamela and Brian. As the wife of a career Army officer, Emogene adeptly managed over 24 relocations for her family. This demonstrated her resilience and adaptability, and she never lost her sense of humor.
Emogene's academic journey began at Copiah Lincoln High School and continued at Bellhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi, where she earned a BA in English. She furthered her education at San Francisco State University, specializing in Early Childhood Education.
Her career was marked by a profound commitment to education. Emogene taught English and poetry at Hanau High School in Germany before joining Stepping Stone Schools in the United States, where she eventually became the Director of Curriculum. She believed deeply in contributing to the collective intelligence of future generations.
Emogene was a lifelong Methodist, participating in her faith community at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church in Texas. Her faith was deeply intertwined with her everyday life, as evidenced by her knowledge of church hymns and her dedication to instilling the values of unconditional love in her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela and Steve Krupinsky her son in law, sister, Jane Koski and family; Jennifer Wallace and the Sones family; granddaughter Haley. Maggie, Emily and the Tracy family. Emogene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Tracy; son, Brian Tracy; brothers, Joe Sones and John Sones; and her parents, Irene and John Sones.
A service to celebrate Emogene's life will be held at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, 7050 Village Center Dr., Austin, Texas, on September 5th at 11 AM. Cook-Walden Funeral Home, in Austin, Texas, is assisting the family with the arrangements. Emogene's legacy of love, education, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
