Enrique Raul Fernandez, lovingly known to family and friends as Rick, passed away in Austin, Texas. Born in Lompoc, California, Rick’s life was one of movement, resilience, and depth. He grew up in Austin, Texas, with meaningful years also spent in Sacramento, California, and Abilene, Texas—each place leaving its mark on his journey.
Rick was known as a risk taker, someone unafraid to face life head-on and walk his own path. He chose to live life on his own terms, valuing freedom, simplicity, and independence over convention. He also had a generous heart and would help those in need whenever he could, often without seeking recognition. In his later years, he lived quietly and privately, finding strength in reflection and personal growth. Those who truly knew him understood the depth of his character and the wisdom shaped by experience.
He is survived by his beloved son, Joseph Martinez, who remained the center of his heart. Rick is also lovingly remembered by his mother, Maria Martinez, and stepfather, Arturo Martinez; his brother, Gabriel Fernandez; and his sisters, Michelle Martinez and Renee Martinez-Abundis. He is further survived by his brothers-in-law, Theodore Schneider and Ricardo Abundis; and his cherished nephews and niece Angel Fernandez, Timothy Rodriguez, R. Alexander and Brianna Abundis, Jacob and Lukas Sharer.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Fernandez; his brother, Manuel Fernandez; and his niece, Angelia Fernandez. He will be remembered for his courage, his kindness, and his unwavering commitment to living authentically.
May Rick now walk in peace, unburdened and free, guided by love and light. May the open road welcome him home, and may those who loved him find comfort in knowing his spirit rests at ease.
