Etta Rae Washington, 72, of Austin, Texas, passed away on January 25, 2025. Etta was born on September 18, 1952, to John and Edna Simpkins in Austin, Texas. She accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend R.H. Hawkins. Etta graduated from Austin High School in 1970. After graduation, Etta, worked for the State of Texas MHMR kicking off a long career and retiring from the State. After retirement she was in the restaurant management industry.
Etta married the love of her life, Charles Washington. They had three children, Aldo Washington, Shawna Washington, and Wilbert C. Washington.
After retiring from the workforce Etta spent her time taking care and raising many other children.
Etta was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Charles, siblings: Claude, Edward, Thomas, Wesley, Lee, Ben, Frances, Mary, J.C., John, and granddaughter Laticia Bolden.
Etta is survived by her children, her sisters; Edna Henry (Cliff), Virginia Logan (Arthur), Alice Burse and a brother David Simpkins; her grandchildren: Rayven, Jalen, Stevin, FranShawn, Reginald, Jada, Tim, Jonathan, Charles, Denescia, Cameron, Christian, Shanice; bonus daughter Chanda; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
