Gene was born on November 4, 1936 to Isadore and Monica Penberg in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from high school, Gene joined the United States Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge, he began a career at IBM where he retired after 30 years.
Gene and Arlene married in 1959 in Scranton, PA before moving to Binghamton, NY where all four children were born. In 1980, they moved to Austin, Texas, which they have called home for more than forty years.
Gene is predeceased by his wife, Arlene, of 64 years; his parents, Isadore and Monica; his brothers, Bill and Jan; and sisters, Shelby and Ann.
Gene is survived by his sister, Evelyn Wallace and three brothers Jerry, Alan and Richard. He is also survived by his four children, Gene (Debora), Dan (Julia), Mike (Kim), Terri (Lenny); his cat Cleo; 11 grandchildren, Stephen, Kristen (Pete), Adam, Rachel (Tyler), Ryan (Cloey), Justin (Courtney), Jeremy, Bailey, Logan, Drew, and Chase; as well as 5 great-grandchildren, Avery, Layne, Karsyn, Austyn, Brooks and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 17th at 1:00pm Cook Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road 78750.
