Eugenio moved from China to Chile in 1955 after World War II. He met Maria Angelica Aguirre in Santiago, Chile in 1963. After graduating from the University of Chile, he moved to the United States in 1965. He pursued his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Eugenio obtained a position with International Business Machines (IBM) in 1967 in Fishkill, New York and then later transferred to Poughkeepsie, New York. In 1970, Maria Angelica moved to New York and they were married on November 7, 1970. In 1981, IBM transferred the Tai Family to Boca Raton, Florida and then to Austin, Texas in 1986. After 25 years with IBM, and a very successful career, Eugenio retired in 1992.
After retirement, he pursued many interests. He studied acupuncture at the Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and practiced acupuncture for a couple of years. He then obtained his real estate license and worked for Keller Williams for 4 years.
Eugenio was a member of the National Association of Realtors, the Texas Association of Realtors, the Austin Board of Realtors, the Real Estate Cyberspace Society and the Keller Williams Northwest Education Center.
Eugenio was also a member of the Austin Christian Assembly. Spending time with his sisters and brothers at Austin Christian Assembly gave him great comfort. He cherished those friendships and was very devoted to attending bible studies every Friday night. Reading the bible and praying with his sisters and brothers was a time that he treasured and gave him great support.
Most of all Eugenio enjoyed spending time with his family. Sunday evening dinners and Holiday celebrations with Angelica, his children and grandchildren were a common occurrence. A lot of laughter and wonderful memories were created during those gatherings, and Eugenio was so happy to have his family close by. Family was one of the most important parts of Eugenio’s life, and while his presence will be terribly missed, his family will continue the tradition of Sunday dinners remembering him always and the love that he demonstrated.
Eugenio is survived by his wife, Angelica Tai of Leander, Texas; son, Eugene Tai, Jr. and wife, Lara of Austin, Texas; daughters, Michelle Hensley and husband, Brian of Austin, Texas; and Denise Meraz and husband, Carlos of Pflugerville, Texas.
