Evelyn Griffith Gore

Evelyn Faye Griffith Merritt Gore, 90, passed away on October 17, 2013 in Southlake, Texas. She was born near Victoria, Texas on April 30, 1923, the daughter of William Dee Griffith and Evie Mae Pierce Griffith. Her husband, Raymond Gore, preceded her in death in 2007. She was a resident of the memory care unit of The Isle at Watermere in Southlake at the time of her passing.

Evelyn joined Fox Service Company in Austin, Texas in 1975, serving as Corporate Secretary, and retired in August, 2008. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Buda.

She is survived by her son and only child, Clarence “Sonny” Merritt and his wife Bilita of Fort Worth, Texas. She is also survived by her brother Robert A. “Doc” Griffith and his wife Patricia of San Antonio, as well as by grandchildren Trey Merritt of Amarillo, Jeffrey Merritt and his wife Karrie of Fort Worth, Larry Merritt and his wife Amber of Albuquerque, NM, and Brittany Merritt Gonzales and her husband Chris of San Antonio. Evelyn is also survived by five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

We wish to acknowledge the genuinely loving care given to her by the staff at The Isle at Watermere and the personnel of Heritage Home Health and Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Buda, 104 S. San Marcos St., Buda, Texas with Rev. Buddy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow services at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
