

Floy McCreless Shead, age 88, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007, in Austin from complications of heart and lung disease. Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2007, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 3125 N. Lamar, followed by graveside service at Memorial Hill Park on North IH 35. Memorials: Flowers or donation to a charitable organization of your choice. Floy was born on September 5, 1918, in Horton, Alabama, the only girl in a family of six children. After high school, she ventured out to work in cities across the country from Chattanooga to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, and San Francisco, where she met her future husband, Ray Francis Shead. They married in 1946, but he died in 1951 of polio, leaving Floy to raise three small children. For 35 years, in addition to raising her family, she was a central figure at the Automotive Wholesalers of Texas, starting as a secretary and working up to Administrative Vice President. She lived in Austin since 1953. An avid golfer, Floy also enjoyed reading and gardening. Survivors: Daughter, Linda Rae Shead, and husband Tommy C. Douglas of Houston; son, Layne Shead and wife Bren Shead of Missouri City; son, Greg Shead of Austin; grandsons, Cory A. Shead, Ryan C. Shead, and Nathan L. Shead of Missouri City.
