

It’s with the deepest sorrow and heartfelt reverence, that we announce the passing of Francisco “Franky” Zapata Jr. He was our most beloved son, brother, family member and friend. Frankie was called to the Kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, while in the loving care of his family. He passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at the age of 50.
Frankie was born on March 30, 1974, to Frank and Janie Zapata in Austin, TX. He was raised in East Austin, then lived in South Austin, he later went on to have a successful career with Traffic Control, working several different jobs. Frankie was a kindhearted, cheerful, and hard-working man. He had a beautiful smile, positive spirit, and a contagious laughter that always made him stand out in the crowd. Frankie’s zest for life was seen and felt from everyone around him. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest, inspiring others to do the same. Frankie was devoted to his family and friends, and his love and support for them was unwavering. You could count on getting a hug or bear hug from him every time you saw him. Frankie often said, “I got you” and that meant that he would do anything for you. There wasn’t a time Frankie didn’t look out for his family, friends and their loved ones. He had an incredibly huge heart, and he genuinely cared immensely for people. Frankie was very close to his father, and cherished watching sports with him, especially the Dallas Cowboys. Frankie was a “BIG” Cowboys fan. He loved to buy his dad unique Native American memorabilia to add to his collection. Frankie also enjoyed spending time with family at get togethers. His favorite food was arroz con pollo, he enjoyed riding his Spider trek bike and booming his music while cruising. Frankie’s vibrant personality and strong family values was the glue and sparkle of the family. Though his smile is gone forever, and his hand we can no longer hold, we have so many memories that will live in our hearts forever.
He was preceded by his mother Janie Zapata and Grandparents Victor and Gumesinda Reyna and Pauline “Paula” Zapata
He is survived by his father Frank Zapata, his sister Annette Wheeler, brother Orlando Zapata, his children Ryan Zapata, Zachary Zapata, Nathaniel Gonzales, grandchildren Elizabeth, Reina, and Ariella, nephews and niece Renay Zapata, Ayden, Annika, and Anden Wheeler and he is survived by several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Those who knew Frankie will remember him for so many reasons, his love for simplicity and positivity, compassion for others, and strong will and determination to be the best that he could be. Frankie had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, because he was such a kid at heart. He had so many friends and made everyone around him feel welcomed and loved. Frankie left a lasting impact on all who crossed his path, and he will be forever missed. As we lay Frankie to rest, we acknowledge that he was such a powerful light to this world, and we are all better because of it. Our hearts will forever be thankful, because we had a chance to know the incredible person that he was. Frankie - Rejoice in the kingdom of God – until we see each other again!
