

Frank French died August 24th 2012, in Austin, Texas after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was born May 8th, 1922, in Cincinnati, Ohio. After serving as a Lieutenant on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp in World War II, he studied radar for the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, where he met and married Margaret Hemple in 1946. After graduating with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from MIT in 1948, he began a distinguished 35 year career with DuPont. Early in his career he managed interesting products such as Zepel (water repellent), Corfam (artificial leather) and Freon (medical refrigerant).
He later ran Jackson Laboratory and then led Environmental, Regulatory Affairs and Worker Safety programs. After spending much of his career living in Wilmington, Delaware, he retired to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, where he lived from 1988 through 2010. His love and devotion for his wife
continued to deepen throughout their marriage. He was very active in the Catholic Church and his devotion and respect for the Eucharist were evident throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, his daughter Christine, and sons Mark and Steven, as well as 5 grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Tuesday, the 28th of August, 2012 from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock in the evening, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home with the reciting of the Rosary beginning at 7 o’clock in the evening.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 29th of August, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 4311 Small Drive, Austin, Texas. Funeral Arrangements under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
