Genevieve Mae Heze, age 85, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep with a smile on her face on March 3rd, 2026. She was born on July 10th, 1940, in Pepeekeo, Hawaii, to Daniel and Matilda (Reis) Phillips. She lived with her parents and older sister, Lorraine, in South Hilo as the family worked on the Onomea Sugar Plantation. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Elementary School in Hilo. Later, the family relocated to the mainland and landed in San Francisco, California. She grew up in the Noe Valley area of the Mission District and attended St. Paul’s Catholic Elementary School and High School. Genevieve lived most of her life in California and was a diehard fan of Giants Baseball and the San Francisco 49ners.
She met and married Eugene Heze in 1966, and they began a family that grew into the Ohana we know today: 4 children, 1 angel baby, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She relocated to Austin, Texas, in 2021 to live with her daughter, Veronica, and son-in-law, Ken. Living on the mainland never diminished her spirit of Aloha and Ohana. Family meant everything to her and always came first. She asked daily about her kids and wanted to know how they were doing. She will be deeply missed, but her love for us will last forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Matilda Phillips; her husband, Eugene Heze; her grandson, Eugene Pittsenberger; and her dear sister, Lorraine Musgrave.
Her children and their spouses survive her: daughter Veronica Bambrick (Ken Bambrick), daughter Theresa Arroyo (Abel Arroyo), son Edward Heze (Mandie Heze), and daughter Bernadette Heze (David Pittsenberger), including 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held in California are pending dates and times.
**In lieu of flowers, please have a Catholic Mass said in her memory and send a note to the family letting them know when it will take place. Let us storm heaven with our prayers for the repose of her soul. May she now rest in peace.
