

George F. Lamkin, age 94, passed away August 6, 2015 in Cedar Park TX. Born in Omaha, Nebraska on January 28, 1921, he spent his earlier years in Kansas and, his mother’s homeland, France. Parents Oran and Augustine Derouet Lamkin met during World War I while Oran was in the Army. He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Beverly R. Lamkin, two sons, B. Eric Lamkin of Wichita, KS and Sterling S. Lamkin (Linda)of Cedar Park, TX, grandchildren Karianne Kutz (Craig) of Valley Center KS, Julianne Sebring (Mitchell) of Austin, TX, Brian Lamkin of Atlanta, GA, Amanda and Kallie Lamkin of Cedar Park, TX, Jennifer Kraisan (Mike) of Wentzville, MO, Melissa (Patrick) Rapt of Lawrence, KS, Brandon Skaer of Austin, TX, great grandchildren Kacey and Kalynn Kutz, Devin and Madalyn Kraisan & Liam Smith and Ellie Rapp, niece Veleta Oldfield, and nephews Robert Jr. and Lawrence Lamkin all of Wichita, KS.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Louise and brother Robert.
George joined the Marine Corp December 3, 1941 thinking his ability to speak French would be helpful in Europe. However, he was sent to the South Pacific as a Marine paratrooper in World War II. He later attended Rollins College, and worked in Quality Control at Boeing (aircraft), Martin Marietta (missiles), NCR (computers) and Intermedics (medical equipment). He was an avid car collector, liked to cook, paint, and woodworking. Built a boat and a small airplane with friends, obtained his private pilot’s license, and raced his Jaguar in the SCCA.
A visitation was held Tuesday, 6 PM to 8 PM on August 11, 2015 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., August 12, 2015, at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home located at 9700 Anderson Mill Road in Austin. Graveside service will be held at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery following the funeral service.
