Born in San Antonio, Texas on January 23, 1956, George was the eldest son of Nancy and George Mead. A graduate of Alamo Heights High School, George was president of the Student Council as well as a formidable presence on the high school debate circuit—ranked second in the nation in extemporaneous speaking. He graduated with a degree in Russian History from Brown University and attended the University Of Texas School Of Law. Gifted with an extraordinary intellect and a wry sense humor, George had an astute political mind. He served as Legislative Aide to two members of the Texas House of Representatives and later as a State and Federal Lobbyist supporting Hospitals and Health Care Systems throughout the country. For many years, he made Austin, Texas his home. He loved Barton Springs and Mexican food joints. He was a voracious reader from his earliest years and surrounded himself with books and music. Of late, he was a photographer and a world explorer. Whether kayaking off of the Mexican Pacific coast, taking photographic safaris to Africa, or traveling to Russia with his brother and sister-in-law, George left his mark on the people he met along the way.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy Snell and George Carlton Mead, Sr.
He is survived by his brother, Robert Mead (Katia); sisters, Elizabeth Mead and Suzanne Mead Feldmann (Kirk); nephews, Cameron Feil, Sasha and Andre Mead, Max Feldmann; nieces, Megan Hauglid and Anne-Marie Breedlove.
In accordance with his wishes, there will not be a service. However, we will gather to share stories and honor his memory at a reception to be held at his sister's home in San Antonio from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Wednesday, November 26, 2014.
For those wishing to make a contribution in memory of George, we suggest the Children's Hospital of San Antonio Foundation or a charity of your choice.
