George E Schneider, 72, of Dripping Springs, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday November 4, 2015. George was born September 2, 1943 to John Edwin and Virginia Mae (Reid) Schneider in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was raised in Austin, TX.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Brenda Floyd Hills; his daughters and sons-in-law, Roxanne Lisa and Michael William Rains and their children Michael William, Jr and Savannah Marie; Kimberly Diana and Brian Scott Hughes and their children Randon William and Brenan Ray; and his step-son and daughter-in-law, Scot and Sherri Hills and their daughters, Bradli Arrington and Davis Macey.
George was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his brother Richard John Schneider, his aunts Mary Cox and Julia Stiba, and his uncle George Walter Reid, Jr.
George began his career with the State of Texas as a computer programmer and successfully retired as Deputy Commissioner of Information Resources at the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. During his career, he mentored numerous Information Technology professionals. He was devoted to his profession but he never lost sight of the value of his employees. Even though he received numerous professional awards, he always contributed his success to his “team”. His legacy will continue to live because of his professionalism and his love for his “team”. George also had a deep compassion for the disabled consumers the agency served. Because of his devotion to put the consumer first, he had the insight to develop a state of the art information technology system that enabled services to be provided directly to the consumer. His ability to look into the future and provide not only technology but the human aspect toward providing these services will live for many years.
George’s grandchildren were the delight of his life. He loved spending time with them. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, building WWII airplane models, and visiting war bird museum. He also followed all sporting events, but especially college baseball. He attended University of Texas baseball and football games for as long as his health allowed. Those who knew George will miss his friendship, humor, laughter, and conversations.
A memorial service in his honor will be held on November 19, 2015, at 2:00 pm at the Cook- Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752.
