George attended Austin High School, served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force, and worked at the Serta Mattress company for 30 years. He played guitar and sang in country-western bands.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George H. P. Showalter, Jr. He is survived by brothers Daniel Showalter of Arcata, CA; Michael (Madeleine) Showalter of Austin; a sister, Sharon (Dan) Hill of Magnolia; and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ, 11908 North Lamar, Austin, Texas 78753.
