Gertrude Herndon, age 83, died peacefully July 7. Born to Dr. and Mrs. Julian Herndon on February 10, 1924, in Miles, Texas, Gertrude was proud of her West Texas heritage. She loved to tell stories of the time she spent traveling with her father to care for folks in rural Runnels County. Gert, as she was known to her friends, was a storyteller, proofreader and all around word games champion. Before retirement, she worked as a proofreader at The Austin Citizen newspaper and at G & S Typesetting. Gertrude is survived by her son, Richard and wife, Patti of Ganado, Texas, her granddaughter, Bryna and husband, Chuck Boehle, of Austin and grandson, Bryan Herndon of Austin. She is also survived by the love of her life, her great-granddaughter, Lena Boehle. The family would like to thank Richard Moree and Nona Gold, the members and staff of St. Johns United Methodist Church, Eva Bradford, Ava Hughes and her many friends at North Loop Apartments for the love and laughter they shared with Gert in the last few years. The family will receive friends in Austin from 6 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday evening, July 10 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar. There will be a graveside service at the Miles Cemetery on Wednesday, July 11, at 2 p.m. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
