Gloria Jean Dismuke

Gloria Jean Howell Dismuke of Austin, Texas passed away on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 at the age of 80. She was born on March 29, 1943, in Austin, Texas where she grew up and provided the role of caretaker for her four other siblings and married John Dismuke on February 8th, 1962.

Gloria graduated from Del Valle High School in 1961. She worked as a bookkeeper at Newberry’s Department store before transitioning to a housewife once she started her family with John.

Gloria was actively involved in raising her son Rory and provided endless hours of support to her family through the years which included spending countless hours loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gloria also enjoyed going to thrift stores to look for hidden treasures, collecting beanie babies, sports cards, and antique jewelry, and taking trips to casinos with John and her brother Paul.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband John Dismuke, father Melvin Howell, and mother Frances Jane Williams Howell.

Gloria is survived by her son Rory & wife Linda; grandchildren Lauren (Jeremy), Jessica (Aaron), and Bethany; great-grandchildren Kennedy, Addison, Olivia, and Orion; and siblings Paul, Kenneth, Melissa, and Pat.

Gloria had a heart of gold and never had a bad word to say against anyone no matter the circumstance and she will be truly missed by those who knew her!

The family would like to thank Hospice Austin for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days.

A family visitation will take place at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home located on 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin Texas 78749 on November 20th from 5:00-7:00PM. A funeral service will follow on November 21st at 10:00AM. A graveside service will be held on November 21st at 2:30PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery located on 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
