

Gordon was born on July 12, 1927 in Paris, Texas to parents Gordon Dickey Moore, Sr. and
Jessie Lusk Moore.
He lived his childhood in Blossom, Texas and graduated from Blossom High
School where he was a member of the Blossom basketball team. He entered into the U.S. Navy
on March 5, 1946, attended Initial Entry Training, Advanced Individual Training at U.S. Naval
Training Station at San Diego, CA, then served on the Hospital Ward at the U.S. Naval Hospital
at Corpus Christi, TX and attained the rank of Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class (PhM 3c). He received
an honorable discharge on January 5, 1948 and used the Montgomery G.I. Bill to fund Bachelor
of Music and Master of Education degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. Gordon
taught in the Austin Independent school district for 34 years as an elementary school music
teacher beginning in 1953, later became head teacher at John B. Winn, was promoted to principal
of Palm Elementary School in 1965. He retired as principal of Zilker Elementary School in 1985.
In addition to his work he enjoyed RV camping with his family.
Gordon was a caring and loving husband and father, patient and selfless servant of the Lord. He
loved life and looked forward to each new day. There were always things to do - something to
keep him busy. Yet he didn't fear the mystery of death.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty, who lives in Austin. His eldest son Richard who lives in Temple. His younger son Michael and daughter-in-law Monica who live in Fort Huachuca, AZ. Grandsons Tyler and Russell, and great-granddaughter Mia who live in Austin. Grandson Paul who lives in Killeen, TX.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Memorial United Methodist Church.
