

Gratton Lamoine “Bo” Boaz, 83, born on April 2, 1930, in Palmyra Indiana, was overcome by congestive heart failure on August 9, 2013 around 3 PM which coincides with the time and date of their 55th wedding anniversary (August 9, 1958 at 3 PM). At the time, he was surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home.
After graduating from High School in New Albany Indiana, he entered into a Tool and Die Maker Apprenticeship which was interrupted by his proud service in the Korean War, during which, he was seriously wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. After returning home he completed his apprenticeship and met his lifelong partner and wife, Betty Pitman. His lifetime accomplishments included membership in the Master Masons, for 62 years and was a Licensed Professional Engineer.
In 1958, Gratton joined IBM in Lexington Kentucky and later transferred to Austin Texas, where he lived the remainder of his life. He retired from IBM June 30th, 1991. After retirement he enjoyed tinkering and creating woodworks in his woodworking shop. He was an avid fan of UT Women’s Athletics and UT Men’s Basketball. Gratton enjoyed traveling to different events watching and cheering for his beloved Longhorns. He and his wife Betty traveled the world touching all but one state and experienced the countries of England, Scotland and the Netherlands

Gratton was preceded in death by his parents G.J. Boaz, and Nellie Hartman Boaz, and siblings: Gladdin, Jack, Mick, Elson “Fats” and Dodie. Survived by his wife Betty, sister Una Hartfield of Greenville IN; 2 brothers Terry and wife Linda of Greenville IN and Larry of Floyd Knobs IN; three sons and their wives; Tim and Melissa of Austin TX; Tom and Sloan of Round Rock TX; and Ted and Darlene of Cedar Park TX. Also his grandchildren: Richard and wife Kate Boaz of Bealeton VA, Theran and husband Clay Smallwood of San Antonio TX; Katie Boaz of Kyle TX; Anthony Boaz of Austin TX; Martinique Bowers of Round Rock TX; Evan Boaz of Austin TX; Gregory Boaz of Round Rock TX; and Alexandria Boaz of Round Rock TX; Seven great-grandchildren: Andrew, Isaac, Elijah, Rachel, Joshua, Sophia and Micah all of Bealeton VA.
The visitation, reception and funeral services will be held at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home in Austin, TX. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 with Masonic Orders beginning at 7 PM. A reception will be held at 1 PM on August 14, 2013 with the funeral service at 2 PM following the reception. Burial will be at Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville, TX following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Bethany UMC Benevolent Fund.
