Anyone who has ever met Gwen will always remember Gwen. Gwen King Giles, 56, of Austin, Texas, passed away this week. She was born to Arthur and Phyllis Jenkins on May 3, 1949 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Gwen lived a vibrant and full life impacting every person she came in contact with, from family to friends to her favorite people at the grocery store. No one could help but be attracted to Gwens magnetic personality and way of life. First and foremost, Gwen was a mom who loved and completely devoted her life to each and every opportunity she had to be with her children. Gwen was also whole-heartedly in love and dedicated to her husband, Rogan. Her many friends and acquaintances, who soon became her new best friends, held a significant place in Gwens heart and everyday life. Gwen received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in 1971. From the day sorority rush began, until now, Gwen has been exceptionally active in Kappa Alpha Theta, both at SMU and at The University of Texas at Austin. Gwen was also very involved in all the Austin arts, including The Symphony League of Austin, Zachary Scott Theater and the Jack Blanton Museum of Art. One of the things Gwen enjoyed the most was leading children in music during vacation bible school and many other events at her church and childrens schools. She was preceded in death by her first husband Robert King, father Arthur Jenkins, and brother Steven Jenkins. Survivors include her children Morgan and Elizabeth King, husband Rogan Giles, Jr., mother Phyllis Green, sister Susie Dayton, brother David Jenkins, and beloved dog Lily. The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. in the Smith Chapel at Riverbend Church, 4214 N. Capital of Texas Hwy, Austin. Reception to follow.
