Young Harrison proved how smart he was by taking apart and putting back together every appliance in the house. His mother Kay encouraged his adventures.
Then Gene started building stuff. Beautiful stuff. Fences and arbors for vines and he could sew privacy “sails” for the patio. He made garden tables and designed plant beds.
Harrison loved color and taught all his friends to not fear bold colors on their walls and really anywhere. He had a bright yellow truck and a turquoise Stealth.
His masterpiece was a magnificent modern greenhouse with a pentagon pool underneath. That greenhouse was pictured in a book STYLISH SHEDS AND ELEGANT HIDEAWAYS. Many newspapers showed it and HGTV did a show called LOOK WHAT I DID! about it.
Harrison is survived by his best friend Sam Loehr and his siblings Randall and Beverly Bates, Pamela Bates, Loretta Bates Fischer and Terrill Fischer, and Douglas Bates.
We will miss our “LITTLE GENE BEAN” and we know you will too.
Harrison will always be in our hearts.
