

A life-long Texan, she was born to Pearl and Ray Sandel in Normangee. She spent her early life in Leon County, Madison County and the Houston area. After briefly living in Galveston, she spent most of her life in League City raising sons Gary and John. Merle and John moved to Kerrville in 1991 to be near her siblings.
A favorite role was being Mema to Tory Jobe, Kelly Eby, Anna Curry, Paul Burns, and Neil Roberts. She also has great grandchildren Kennedy, Rhys, Liberty and soon-to-be-born Eliza.
Merle loved God and country. She embraced family, friends and strangers always with dignity and a practice of selfless service. She was an avid cook, fisherwoman and Spurs fan. Merle was a member of the League City United Methodist Church and then the St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Kerrville.
She is preceded in death by all her siblings: sisters Alice Follmar, Evelyn Pearson, Lela Moore, Vera Alsup, and brothers Joe, Olan, Robert and Roland Sandel.
She is survived by son Gary Hinte and his wife Renee of Pasadena, and by son John Hinte and his wife Rebecca Benz of Austin.
Graveside services will be held in the Garden of Memories in Kerrville at 1 PM on Saturday.
