

Hazel Cook Briggs of Onion Creek-Austin, Texas passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, after a long courageous battle with several severe stokes. She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, resided in Houston for 40 years and retired to Austin. Hazel and her husband founded Briggs & Veselka, CPA firm in Houston. During her years in Houston and Austin, she was very active in volunteer work, travel, 9-hole golf, bridge and University of Texas events. She was also an active member in Sunday school and Church of Bellaire Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church of Houston and First United Methodist Church of Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melton Lee Briggs; parents, Molly and Henry Cook; a sister; and three brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Briggs Patton and husband, Pat of Austin; son, M. Lee Briggs, Jr. and wife, Rita of Peachtree City, Georgia; two grandchildren, Jami and David Briggs; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at West Oaks Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Angel Heart Hospice and all of her friends throughout her life for their support and especially Albert for all of his continuous loving care he gave of himself to her for over 14 years. Private services and a celebration of her life will be held by the family. Graveside services for the interment of the cremation will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Houston, Texas on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at 11:00 am.
