

Helen Penick Helen Holmes Penick, age 101, passed away on December 30, 2006. She was born in Grayson County, Whitesboro, Texas, on October 18, 1905, to Reverend E.H. and Jennie Holmes. She was married by her father to Harvey Penick on December 27, 1928, in Jacksonville, Texas. Harvey preceded her in death on April 2, 1995. She always lived her life to the fullest, no matter her age. She loved people and she was forever young in spirit. Her smile transformed the room. She is survived by one son, Tinsley Penick and wife Betty Ann of Austin, Texas; and one daughter, Kathryn Powell of Brady, Texas. She had 4 grandchildren, Lee Ann Penick, Gene Jones, Kirby Powell, Jana Davis and husband George; 7 great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Kathryn Roberts, Janette Gillespie, and Bobbie Hurt. As Harvey said in his Little Red Book, Thank you, Helen. We say Thank you, Momma. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Christopher House, Hospice of Austin, and Westminster Manor for the care and support she received in her last days. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Monday, January 1, 2007 between 1:00 and 9:00 p.m. Viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. and services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at the Smith Chapel of Riverbend Church with Dr. Gordon Smith officiating. A reception will follow services at the church. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Austin Memorial Park.
