The world has lost a truly good and decent man today. He was many things in his life, a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, as well as a loyal friend to all he knew.
He is survived by his daughter Mollie Moore of Austin, his grandson Mason Wirth, and his great granddaughter Lili Wirth of Washington. He is predeceased by his wife Cornelia Moore, and his son Doug Moore.
He was born in Batesville, Arkansas to Hugh and Mildred Moore, the oldest of 4 brothers. After graduating high school he joined the Navy just shy of his 18th birthday. He served active duty for 4 years, and in the reserves for 20 yrs retiring as a lieutenant. He graduated from The University of Arkansas with a B.S in Public Administration , then earned his M.A in Government from Southern Methodist University , followed by earning his PhD in Political Science from The University of Mississippi "Ole Miss."
He worked in many different fields throughout his life, including local government, budget research and statistics as well as teaching at various universities, however his passion was always teaching. He belonged to several groups including the Optimist Club, The League of Voters, and The American Civil Liberties Union. He was also a member of Berkley United Methodist church for over 38 yrs., where he developed many long lasting friendships.
All of the accomplishments I've just noted tell you the facts ... the statistics about my Dad, but they don't convey the big hearted, loving, caring man that I knew. He felt emotions deeply, but he had a hard time expressing them, I know how much he loved us, and we all loved him dearly. He had a big heart for the underdog, the downtrodden, and social injustice. He gave his time and effort to try and make a difference in this world, and I believe he did.
I love you Dad...I miss you already.....
