She was born on November 10, 1928 in Spring, Texas to Eric and Hilda Kaiser. The family moved to Austin when Iris and her sister, Bonnie, were young, and Iris lived there most of her life.
Iris married the love of her life, Emil Wenzel, on July 22, 1950, and their marriage was a blessed union for 57 years until Emil's passing in 2007. She raised two active sons and attended many sports events during their youth. This continued with her attending her granddaughter's plays and her grandson's sports and band activities.
For over 25 years, she was Director of Specialty Societies for the Texas Medical Association. She was known for her tireless work on behalf of "her" physician groups. A long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she served as part of the Altar Guild. Until the last few months of her life, she was an accomplished bridge player and would rarely turn down a bridge game.
Iris will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by sons Steve and wife, Candy of Blanco, and Ken and wife, Judy of Fort Worth; grandchildren Lauren Biggan and husband, John of Fort Worth, and Alexander Wenzel of Orlando, FL; sister, Bonnie Mundell of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Helen Ruth Yarchak of Pflugerville, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Because of the COVID pandemic, Iris' memorial service will be private, but those wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to St. Paul Lutheran Church Altar Guild, 3501 Red River St., Austin, Texas 78705, or to a charity of their choice.
