

Jack was born and raised in Houston, Texas where upon after graduating from Reagan High School in May 1945, he had is mother sign the necessary papers so he could enlist in the Marine Corps at the age of 17. After his U.S.M.C. discharge in December 1947, he returned to Houston and started a 30 year career with Southwestern Bell (AT&T), beginning as a Lineman and retiring as an Engineer. After a brief period of retirement he began a 10 year career with Telabs based in Round Rock Texas.
In the late 1940's and early 1950's J.D. (as he was called by friends) was an avid stock and midget car racer. He was also an archer and bow hunter, competing in tournaments, and with other team members manufactured their own bow strings and arrows well into the 1960's.
In 1953, Jack married Betty Jean Frederickson, also a tournament archer. Both of them, along with their son, enjoyed boating and water skiing in the Central Texas Highland Lakes from the early 1960's through the 1970's.
In 1981, Jack and Betty moved to a beautiful piece of land on Brushy Creek west of Round Rock after taking the position at Telabs, where he and Betty enjoyed working the land and playing golf. They remained together until she died in April 2016. For the last 14 months of his life, Jack lived in a peaceful rural setting at a small memory care facility until a stroke set him on his path to be with his wife Betty, grandson Jake, and other friends and family in Heaven.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife (Betty Costa), father (Jack Costa Sr., aka Jake), mother (Elizabeth Laird), brother (Sam Costa), and grandson Jacob Lee Costa (Jake). He is survived by his son Scott Costa and daughter in law Jan Costa.
