Jack Drummond was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He earned an undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and a Master’s Degree from Florida State University with honors courtesy of the US Air Force. Jack's early Air Force career was marked by exceptional service through six tours in Southeast Asia. His decorations include three Silver Stars for gallantry in action, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 18 Air Medals, and over a dozen other awards from the US, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam governments. Lt. Col. Drummond was also inducted into the Air Commando Hall of Fame in 2017. He flew over 600 combat missions, including 125 night combat missions, evading gunfire and delivering munitions at altitudes as low as 50 feet. Lt. Col. Drummond trained the Royal Lao Air Force T-28 pilots whose mission it was to prevent a communist overrun of Laos. He worked directly with presidents, vice presidents, and secretaries of state and defense. After retirement from the Air Force, Jack served as executive director of the Austin Apartment Association and later the Association of Facility and Maintenance Engineers. He also led the Building Owners and Managers Association of Austin into one of the top BOMA organizations in the US. Got to serve with Jack in the Air Commandos at Hurlburt while I was in the A-26 and AT-28. Was fortunate to be at the Ceremony last year when he was inducted into the Air Commando Hall of Fame. Just 3 days ago while in our local Barnes & Noble Book Store I picked up Warbird Digest Number 79 and it has an article on ET, A-1H 139606. There on page 49 is a picture of Roger Youngblood and Jack Drummond in front of an A-1. Young and smiling they bring back some great memories of SEA. It was a pleasure to serve with you Jack, Any Time Any Place.

I got to know Jack over the past year and was honored to play a role in the presentation he & Roger Youngblood gave on the air war in Vietnam. Jack flew the C-130 before attack airplanes and we bonded over this immediately even though our stories were decades apart. He was amazingly generous with his time and his recall of details from the past was astounding. He also wowed me with his mastery of computers, software, etc. What I admired most was that he was a true old-school patriot & warrior. He could easily transition from telling me about hair raising night air strikes to cracking a dry joke with a sly smile. The average citizen doesn't realize how blessed our nation is to have those like Jack who step up and willingly put their lives on the line for a cause greater than themselves. It was a distinct honor to call him my friend and he will be missed. Blue skies & tailwinds Jack!

I was lucky to know Jack. He was my link to reality after he stationed me in Cambodia. I think we helped each other through all those conversations, but they always ended with implicit humor, which we expanded to deep and sincere laughter when the opportunities came. A great and wonderful man. The world is a lesser place. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Jack Drummond was one of those rare, exceptional people that you get the pleasure to meet in life. Always friendly, positive and wanting to put others at ease. Our loss is heaven's gain. Jack, you will never be forgotten by the many, many people whose lives you enriched.
