

He served in North Africa and Italy as a cryptographic technician during World War II where he earned the EAME campaign medial with 6 bronze stars. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1950. He worked for the Texas Employment Commission for 26 years. He retired from the Federal Department of Labor after 14 years as the Regional Director of Veterans Employment Services in 1988. During his distinguished career, he worked with the United States Congress and State government writing laws and legislation governing Disabled Veterans services and Veterans employment.
James was an avid fisherman and Longhorn fan. He joined Hyde Park Baptist church in 1967 where he was an active member. He was a loving father, raising his family in church, coaching little league and ensuring all his children could fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ada Lillian and Harvey Marion Cornett, sister Agnes Mayfield, brother Leighton Cornett and granddaughter Brittany Sonnier.
He is survived by his wife Frances, his son Reavis Cornett and wife Kathy of Austin, his son Ryan Cornett and wife Brenda of Georgetown, his daughter Sandra Pentecost and husband Dusty of Dayton, Texas and daughter Janet Gummerman and husband Geoff of Austin. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock in the evening, on Wednesday, the 13th of June, 2012 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd. Austin, Texas, 78752.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 14th of June, 2012 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd. Austin, Texas, 78752, with the burial at the Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery
