James Robert Giddings, 81, died on January 14, 2026, in Houston, Texas. He was born in Brownsville, Texas on May 28, 1944, to James Asahel Giddings and his wife, Claire Maybell Taylor, both of whom predeceased him.
He is survived by family members: Robert Travis Giddings, John Tyler Giddings (wife Kelly Burke, children Tyler and Beau), James Marshall Giddings, wife Marceline Lasater.
Bob spent most of his life in Austin, Texas. He attended public schools, graduating from McCallum High School. He obtained degrees from the University of Texas in both finance and law. He was a lifetime Longhorn and enjoyed supporting them his entire life. After graduating from UT Law he joined the Air Force and was soon after transferred into the NAVY JAG program. He worked for the Texas Attorney General’s Office in consumer protection litigation before working for the Office of General Counsel for the University of Texas System for many years. He then spent another number of years working for the Texas Department of Banking before retiring from practicing law.
He spent the last few years of his life in Houston due to poor health and to be closer to his family. He was a proud loving father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
