

James West Shelton, 79, of Austin passed away peacefully on the 25th of August 2010 with loved ones at his side in the Cornerstone Hospital. He was born on the 3rd of February 1931 to Mancel E. and Myrtis West Shelton. He married Cindy Larison on the 25th day of January 1952 in Austin, Texas. James retired from the Austin Fire Department as a firefighter after 35 years of service. He was a craftsman in wood working and enjoyed building furniture for all to enjoy. James was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lois, Dorothy and Mildred; a brother, Bob. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cindy Shelton; his son, Wayne Shelton; two daughters, Debbie Martz and her husband, Roy, Sheryl Southwell and her husband, Steve; grandchildren, Jason, Shawna, Matthew, Jeremy and Kelley; his best friend, Ron Wattinger; numerous great-grandchildren and other family members. The family extends special Thanks to the staff of Cornerstone Hospital, Dr. Pohl and all the nursing staff, including Jessica, Katherine and all of the respiratory therapists. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock to eight o’clock in the evening on Saturday, the 28th of August, in the Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. in Austin. The funeral service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 39th of August, in the chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, the family invites you to make a contribution to your favorite charity in James’ memory.
