

Jane Carlton, age 97 passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. She was born February 27, 1912 in Commerce, Texas to Sallie Hundley and Carlton Theodore England. She graduated from East Texas State Teachers College with a BS degree. Jane married Leonard Carlton on August 4, 1932. Their only child William Hundley "Bill" Carlton was born in 1934. They moved to Austin in 1935 where they became active in the Tarrytown community and Austin politics as Leonard became a member of the state legislature. Jane was a charter member of the State Official Ladies Club, President of the Austin Chapter of the Texas A&M Mothers Club and a member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church. Jane or "Nanie" as she was affectionately known to her granddaughters, charmed everyone she met with her mischievous smile and sparkling blue eyes. She was a talented artist and a true southern lady who never met a stranger. Her strength and faith in God will continue to be an inspiration to us all. She was predeceased by her husband and son, who were the loves of her life. Her parents, her brother Homer England and her sister Jessie Pilcher also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Barbara Carlton; granddaughters Laurie Korn, Sharon Solis and husband Oscar and Carol Vickery and husband Mike; great-grandchildren Jordan and Marshall Korn, Benjamin Solis and Morgan and Mason Vickery. She is also survived by her niece Carol Rose and her family. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the Renaissance, our hospice angel Peggy and our special friend Shelley who was with her as she made her transition. We would also like to thank Dr. Scott Blois and his staff for their compassionate care. Donations may be made in her memory to Tarrytown United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20 from 5-7 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21, at 3 pm at Tarrytown United Methodist Church. Burial immediately following at Memorial Hill Park.
