Janice was born on June 13, 1952 to Gladys and Edwin Grimes in Madisonville, Texas. She grew up in Normangee, Texas where she enjoyed playing the piano, reading literature and was head twirler at her high school. Janice always had an extremely soft spot in her heart for animals, especially cats. After graduating valedictorian of her class, Janice started her college career at Sam Houston State University. After freshman year, she transferred to Texas A&M University. That year, at the age of 19, Janice married her high-school friend who became her sweetheart and life-long love, George Davis Cozart.
After graduating cum laude with a degree in education from Texas A&M in 1973, Janice and George moved to the Houston area. During that time they welcomed two children, Greg and Amy, into their lives. In 1983 Janice and her family moved to Austin where they fell in love with the city and decided to put down roots.
Janice dedicated her life to helping others. Her warmth, love, acceptance and compassion were felt by everyone around her. She had a passion for music, travel, photography, the arts, her children and teaching—especially those with learning disabilities. She retired from Eanes Elementary School after 35 years of teaching. She had a deep faith in her Lord and demonstrated that fully to all who knew her.
She is proceeded in death by her father, Edwin Grimes and survived by her devoted, loving family, including her husband George Cozart, son Greg Davis Cozart, his wife Siria, grandchildren Samantha, Leah and Becky Soto and Gavin Cozart, daughter Amy Elizabeth Cozart and her fiancé Micahan Burgess, her mother Gladys Grimes, brother Danny Grimes and his wife Anne, as well as a host of family and friends.
Our family would like to express our deepest appreciation for all of those who cared for Janice and did so much for her throughout her illness. While we could never name everyone, we would especially like to thank Karen Worman, Charlotte Pickett, Jennifer Garcia and Cynthia Berkman. We are also grateful to everyone at the Lodges at Rocky Hollow and Gentiva Hospice.
While Janice will be missed dearly every day, the lives she has touched will be forever changed. We take comfort in knowing she is now at peace.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janice’s name to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (lbda.org).
