AUSTIN, TX - Janie Ross passed away on the evening of Monday, February 1, 2010, at Hospice Austin's Christopher House, with her family at her side. She was the most special daughter of Noreen Ross and Bob Ross, who have each preceded her in death; baby sister and friend to Rusty, Kathy and Steve; loving aunt to Amy, Blake, Hunter, Michael and Deborah; thoroughly devoted great aunt to Henry and Harry. Janie was born in Lansing, Michigan, on October 9, 1952, the most amazing birthday present for Kathy. She had the good sense to move to Texas with her family as an infant in December of 1952. Austin would be home forever. Some years later, when Bob Ross became general manager of the Driskill Hotel, the family made their new home on the 12th floor of the historic landmark and were happy there for many years. It was a front row seat for many events and Janie didn't miss much. There was always a beloved dog in Janie's life, and they always knew who loved them best. They were Louie, Sugarfoot, Conrad, Freeway and Mollie. She attended St. Austin elementary school with her sibs; St. Agnes Academy in Houston and graduated from the University of Texas. She then moved to Dallas to begin her career in retail, which she loved. She worked in management with Neiman Marcus, Britch's of Georgetown and Mark Shale before returning to Austin to manage the Microsoft Windows Mobile product introductions across the country. It is her strength of spirit that we celebrate and her absence that we mourn so deeply. Her gifts to us have been her fierce tenacity in the face of relentless illness and pain, her love of her family, our traditions and history. She remains in our hearts forever. We wish to thank Dr. Debra Patt, of Texas Oncology, Dr. Michael Overman, Dr. Larry Driver and Dr. Peter Pisters of M.D. Anderson, Houston, as well as all the amazing people of Hospice Austin's Christopher House. Visitation will be Saturday, February 6, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home North Lamar. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christopher House c/o Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Suite 100, Austin, Texas, 78759.
