

Jay W. Shreiner, 65, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Saturday, September 12th, 2015, after a long battle with brain cancer.
Jay was born on March 4th, 1950, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to Walter and Ruth Shreiner. He graduated from Kent State University with a BBA in Accounting and then earned an MBA from Case Western Reserve University – Weatherhead School of Management, graduating with Honors in Banking and Finance. On June 17th, 1972, he married his college sweetheart, Kathy (Grossenbacher) Shreiner.
Jay was an exceptional business leader, beginning his career as a CPA at Ernst & Young. He continued on to succeed in roles such as Senior Financial Analyst at Goodrich Corporation, CIO at Kellogg Company, CFO for various Austin Ventures Portfolio Companies, and CFO at RehabCare Group. Relatively early in his career, Jay earned the opportunity to move his family and to work overseas in Bremen, Germany, with the Kellogg Company, an experience he always cherished. After retirement, Jay enjoyed serving as a Board of Directors Member on several profit and non-profit boards including Global Partnership for Afghanistan and NxStage Medical.
His family, friends, and colleagues will remember Jay as a role model, exceptional listener, and a devoted friend with integrity. He greatly enjoyed cooking, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Jay is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathy (Grossenbacher) Shreiner; his daughter, Kim Frazier and her husband Steve of Austin, TX; his son, Justin Shreiner and his wife Christen of Cincinnati, OH; and his son, Jared Shreiner and his wife Jacqueline of Austin, TX; six grandchildren: Blake, Sophie, Benjamin, Kylie, Charles, and Landon Jay (born three days before Jay’s passing and brought such joy to him); his sister, Mary Ann Brown and her husband Nelson; and his brother Ken Shreiner and his wife Sue.
Jay is preceded in death by his Father, Walter Shreiner, his Mother, Ruth Shreiner, and his sister, Phyllis Strickler.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 26th at Noon at Bethany United Methodist Church in Austin, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Brain Tumor Society Oligodendroglioma Research Fund or the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.
