Jerry R. Jones

Jerry Russel Jones, age 72, of Austin, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011. He was born on August 1, 1938 to J.R. and Nadine Jones in Eagle Pass, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Stephanie; and one son, Rusty.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 50 years, Carol Jones; his son, Randy Jones and wife, Sophie; five grandchildren, Reid, Grant, Dean, Lauren and Mark; two sisters, JoAnn McDavid and Barbara Kelly and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was honorably discharged from the Army and moved to Austin in 1964. He then spent 28 years working for the Texas State Highway Department. He retired in September 1993. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He made sure to spoil the grandchildren as often as possible. He loved to play golf and traveling with family and friends and made numerous trips across the U.S. He never met a stranger and loved to visit with anyone willing to engage in a conversation. He and Carol are members of Crestview Baptist Church and have been for over 40 years.

A Memorial Celebration will be conducted Thursday, the 7th of April, 2011 at eleven o’clock in the morning at Crestview Baptist Church, 7600 Woodrow Avenue, Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Crestview Baptist Church, Juvenile Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
