She had lived in Austin since June, 1961 and was a retired State of Texas employee, having held positions at The University of Texas at Austin, the Texas Supreme Court, and the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation.
Determined in pursuing a college degree, Jo Ann enrolled in college classes wherever she lived, Baylor University, McMurry College, San Angelo College, University of Texas, Austin Community College, and graduation from Texas State University at age 54. She was member of the Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a son, Sam Hammer and daughter-in-law, Ann, granddaughters Katherine and Lauren.
Internment will be at the family plot in Oakwood Cemetery, Comanche, Texas on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
