Joanne Louise Meurer Matthews

Joanne Matthews was surrounded by her loved ones when she passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011 in Austin, TX. The daughter of Joseph and Marguerite Meurer she was born September 24, 1929. She married John Matthews on April 22, 1954, they had five children.

Joanne’s priorities were her family, her faith, and her friends. She was a member of Prayer Blanket Ministry at St. Austin’s Church. She is retired from the University of Texas Printing Services.

Survivors include her husband John, sons John Jr. his wife Patricia; Joe and Jeffery Matthews. Daughter Jo Carson. Grandchildren Jason and Mindi Carson, Nathan and Nicole Carson, Ben Matthews his fiancée Lilly, and Laura Matthews. Great Grandchildren Zane, Kaden, Haleigh and Brooklyn. Sister Rose Schulter, brothers Bill and his wife Agnes Meurer, Patrick Meurer, Vincent Meurer, JC and his wife Roxie Meurer. Numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Janis Marie Matthews, her parents and brother, Paul Herman Meurer.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Seton Medical Care for the excellent care that was given to Joanne.

Pallbearers will be Jason Carson, Nathan Carson, Benjamin Matthews, Thomas Matthews, Robert Wilson and Patrick Matthews. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Joseph, Reid Courtney, Matthew Dreasher, Zane Carson and the Ladies of Blanket Ministry.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 1st of February, immediately followed by the recitation of the rosary in the Colonial Chapel of Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at one o’clock in the afternoon of Wednesday, February 2nd at St. Austin’s Catholic Church 2026 Guadalupe, Austin, Texas.
