Joe D. Jacobs passed away at his home in Austin, Texas on August 11, 2020. He was born on July 24, 1950. Joe graduated from Crockett High School in 1969. Directly after high school, Joe joined the Navy where he proudly served his country from 1970 – 1972. He was a survivor of the Vietnam War where he served as a seaman aboard the U.S.S. Ranger. Starting in 1974, Joe worked as a Substation Engineer for the Lower Colorado River Authority spending a lot of time traveling around Texas for his work. He retired from LCRA after 28 years in 2002.
Joe was known for his goofy laugh, cheesy jokes and big bright smile that was contagious to anyone around him. Joe was baptized in 1950 at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church and remained a member until his death. He was a avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling, fishing, and trying his hand at the craps table. He loved watching sports and was especially passionate for his favorite teams, the Longhorns, Cowboys and Astros.
Joe was very proud of being a Vietnam War Veteran. He was also a dedicated grandfather who loved to attend his granddaughter’s games and events. His kind heart also showed through his love for his mother. He was a dedicated son who took care of her for many years after his father’s death.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joe F. Jacobs.
Joe is survived by his mother, Mary Jacobs; daughter, Robin Jacobs; granddaughters, Haley Elizabeth and Katelyn Darlene.
A private service was held for the immediate family.
