Joe Lynn Ray, age 76, was born August 27, 1937 in Karma, Oklahoma. He passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 in Austin, Texas. He had two major strokes and several small ones that left him with all the symptoms of Alzheimer’s.
Joe graduated from the University of Texas and worked for the State of Texas until his retirement.
He loved football and he enjoyed his football buddies. He especially thanked Dan and Claudia Anderson and Stella and Willie Piña for their friendship. Joe also looked forward to monthly lunches with Merle Modene, Kathy Hall, Dan and Claudia Anderson.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and by two older brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joann Watson Ray of Austin; older brother, Jack Ray and wife, Clara of Caldwell, Texas; brothers-in-law, Edward Watson and Carlos Watson from Mathis, Texas; and three generations of many, many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 12 noon, Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Ken Baldwin to officiate.
