John Gibbs Barrett, 85, passed away the morning of April 30, 2012, at his residence in Austin, Texas. He was born March 15, 1927 in Kaufman, TX, to the late Ned and Gussie Fern Barrett Sr. His family moved to Lufkin where he graduated from Lufkin High School in 1944. A graduate of Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine, he began his career as an anesthesiologist in 1957. He practiced medicine for 51 years, and served Angelina County and the surrounding East Texas community while working at Memorial Hospital of Lufkin and East Texas Eye Associates. He was a veteran of the Korean War and long-standing member of the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin.
A loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nona, son, daughter in law, and two grandchildren.
A private service will be held in Austin, TX, and a “Celebration of Life” reception will be held in Lufkin, TX at a yet to be determined time.
