

He was born December 8, 1933 in El Dorado, Arkansas to John and Bennie Blevens Bramlett.
He attended Grade School in El Dorado, Arkansas; Malvern, Arkansas; Fayetteville, Arkansas; and Highland Park Grade School in Texarkana, Texas. John graduated from Texarkana Texas High School in 1951 (Go Tigers!). He then entered East Texas State Teachers College, from where he graduated and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 1955. He entered Flying Training in August 1955 and graduated with pilot's wings in September 1956.
John had numerous assignments throughout his military career. He flew to and from Europe for the Military Air Transport Service out of McGuire Air Force Base, NJ. He served as the Air Force Pilot and Aide to the Commander in Chief, US Southern Command, Panama Canal Zone, flying throughout Central & South America. He trained Vietnamese to become pilots at Randolph and Keesler Air Force Bases. He advised and flew with the Vietnamese Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He flew Air Evacuation missions in Europe while stationed at Rhein-Main Air Force Base, Frankfurt, West Germany. He served as the Field Maintenance Squadron Commander and Maintenance Control Officer for the Strategic Air Command Bomb Wing at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, Michigan before retiring in 1975. While serving in the Air Force, John was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, 3 Air Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, 2 Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, National Defense Service Medal with 2 stars, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 stars, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 3 clusters, Small Arms Expert, Vietnamese Air Force Air Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After taking a couple of years off, John went to work for the 3M Company. During his 20 years with 3M, he was assigned to Test, Repair, and Technical Service departments.
John was one of the founding members of the Retired Guys Breakfast Bunch, affectionately known as the the "RGBB".
John is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Jane Williams Bramlett; daughter Allyson Burke and her husband Pat; grandson David Marshall and his wife Kaysie; grandson Richard Burke and his wife Dayne; granddaughter Janet Marie Mitchell and her husband Wayne; grandson Jason Burke and his wife Jamie; grandson Tim Burke and his wife Dasha; great-grandchildren Drew Marshall, Hunter Marshall, Kash Marshall, Remi Marshall, Carter Burke, Madison Burke, Kennedy Burke, Paisley Burke, Heidi Piper Mitchell, Aiden Mitchell, Gavin Mitchell, Richard Burke Jr. "R.J.", and Beau Burke "B.J."
John was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Heidi Best.
A visitation for John will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX 78750, followed by a service in celebration of his life at 11:00 AM. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 1:00 PM following the service at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas 78731.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his honor to the VFW, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
