He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Debby Russell Burns; his daughter, Ellen Burns Pellizzari (Shad), and grandchildren Hailey, Emmie, and Libby Hack; his son, John Burns III (Stacy), and grandchildren Brinley, Charlotte, John IV, Robert, and Hallie Burns; and Shad’s children, Johnathan and Marrissa Pellizzari. He is also survived by his sister, Hallie (Peaches) Eads, and his brother, Billy Burns (Lisa).
John was born and raised in Austin. He attended Casis, O’Henry, and Austin High School. He went on to attend the University of Virginia and graduated from the University of Texas. Pops adored all of his grandchildren and was blessed to know them all. He loved his Longhorns, Aggies, and even made room in his heart for the “other UT.”
John started his career at Franklin Savings and joined what was then Consolidated Insurance Agency in 1979. That later became John L. Wortham and eventually Marsh McLennan.
John enjoyed many years entertaining and “stalking that big fish” in private water or on the Tuck at the family home in North Carolina. He was always the ultimate host, greeting everyone with his Maker’s Mark and No Le Hace hat.
