

John Lionel Jackson passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances Mary Jackson; his children: Jennifer Turnage (Gary Turnage), Joanie Jackson, Judie Heitzman (Daragh Heitzman), Jackie Hawn (Scott Hawn), John Lionel Jackson III (Kelly Jackson); eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and sixteen grand-dogs. He is preceded in death by his son John Lionel Jackson II, his sister Jean Hall and his parents John and Louise Jackson.
John was born on February 18, 1932 in Fort Worth, Texas.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served as an Atomic Weapons Assembly Specialist in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
John received a degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas Christian University and then attended Baylor University where he earned his Law degree. He worked as a patent attorney for IBM, and retired after 32 years of service. At the time of his retirement, John was lead counsel and manager of the Intellectual Property Division in Austin. He is credited with using his status at IBM to implement the use of patents to protect their software. John was also a land developer and enjoyed gardening and model trains.
John had a humorous nature and made an art out of endearing people, places and dogs with unique comical nicknames. John was a very generous person and a champion of the underdog. Friends and family always knew that he could be called upon to lend a helping hand at a moment's notice.
Services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish North Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar, with visitation on Sunday from 6:00-8:00 pm and the funeral service on Monday at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
