John was so compassionate and excited to be involved in genealogy for as long as I knew him which I think was in 2003. He loved being involved, could talk a mile a minute but a good sport for always being helpful and supportive.
I just today learned of his death through a genealogy friend and am sorry to hear of his passing. He loved being a part of Austin GS, the Williamson County GS and his own SIG group (Special  Interest Group for computers  and computer users as well as genealogy). He also was involved in running a series of genealogy classes for Life Time Learning in Austin.  I will miss him and hope he has found peace. He will be missed.

A sentiment that bears repeating….John will be missed by many.  

I witnessed his dedication to community service with his participation and leadership in the Austin and Williamson County Genealogical societies.  John and Jean shared that interest and a pursuit of excellence in the sharing of their knowledge.  John’s courses conducted under the auspices of Lifetime Learning Institute were in great demand every semester for many years.   John was proud of the leadership position he gained with the Williamson County Genealogy group but he somehow managed to also assume the role of LLI’s website manager, at a time when we badly needed somebody with his skill and diligence.   John served LLI as an instructor for many years and as our “web meister” for five years.  John could always be counted on even in dire times.

One signal characteristic of John was that he was someone you could trust absolutely.  

When he made a commitment to you, that was his bond.  You didn’t have to worry further.  He'd  be where he said he’d be and fully ready to help.  In a world too often governed by inconsistency, John was the one person you could always rely on.  I will miss him.  We all will miss him.  


We, at Adoption Knowledge Affiliates, are saddened by John’s passing and wish to express our heart-felt condolences to the Marostica family. We wish you peace of mind and strength as you carry on. 

John was a dear friend to Adoption Knowledge Affiliates as a past President and Board member and as a technical advisor and “fixer” for our monthly meetings.

His ready smile and big heart were infectious. We will miss him greatly.

We know that the passing of those we love is eminent.  Ecclesiastes says “there’s a time for everything under heaven.  A time to be born and a time to die”, but we seldom know when that time will be.  As with John, we were all going about our day doing the things we normally do, then we were interrupted with the news we never want to hear.  I will always remember that moment.  

I remember the first thoughts that passed through my brain, what, where, when, and how.  Along with my first conscious response, “God, I am not prepared for this.”  Immediately, Psalm 23 came to my heart, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want, (be in need).”  In this psalm David, portrayed God almighty in his role.  Loving, caring, directing, protecting and nurturing his flock, who we are to him.  While my heart still feels the pain, I draw comfort from that verse, knowing that I’m not alone even though I sometimes feel lonely.  

My final remembrance actually began with a lament.   I didn’t actually meet John until about 30 years ago.  As I reflected over that period, I realized that I have none of those funny  stories of John’s early days, that I do of my other siblings.  These are those precious moments that siblings are required to use to embarrass one another as frequently as we can.   The John Marostica I will always remember is the loving and caring individual he was.  So many of you have expressed to me stories of how John demonstrated these traits personally to you over his life.  When time has passed and the pain goes away he will always be this person when I think of him.  These are the most important memories of John that I will retain.

John was gifted in his ability to  help others piece together their past to know where they came from.  At the same time he lived his life as an example of how we should all become.  On behalf of John’s family, I want to thank you for being with us in this time and for sharing with us your memories of our dear brother, John.

I will dearly miss John. I feel very fortunate to have known John, who was a very generous, kind and friendly soul.  John was always so quick and willing to help neighbors in need. Our entire neighborhood benefited from his generosity and willingness to help. We were so lucky to have John join the Milwood Neighborhood Association Board in 2013. He and Jean were always willing to help with any neighborhood initiative, including the 4th of July, Garage Sales, It’s My Park Day, and Hazardous Waste Collection among just a few.  He also could be counted on to provide operational and technology assistance wherever it was needed.   A resident of Milwood for decades, John was known to always lend a helping hand to his neighbors and throw in a story or two as well.  John will be greatly missed by many.

I personally will think fondly of our curbside chats that often came as a result of his willingness to help me with any task set upon us by the neighborhood association. I am so grateful for the support he provided me over the 6 years that we were on the board together. 

John was dedicated to the genealogy community in Austin and will be sorely missed. I was fortunate to take his classes through Lifelong Learning, to attend his library meetings, and to watch him faithfully set up the AV equipment for the Austin Genealogical Society Meetings each month. May he and Jean rest in peace, knowing that their jobs were well done. 

Sincere condolences to John’s many friends and family.  We will miss seeing John and Jean at the genealogy meetings at the library.  Peace be with you.  

Growing up next to our Aunt Parge and Uncle Paul was awesome. We spent much shared time in the two households. There was a well beaten trail between the two houses at the corner of Santa Clara and what was then Katy Street (now Eikel St). I have many memories of going up and down that trail.  We looked on John Francis and Debbie as part of our large family looked on them as extra brother and sister to us.  I am very grateful for the time John Francis and Jean spent sharing our family history at the Cox/Weber reunions at Twin Sisters. They always graciously shared family history with us there. We miss them greatly.  We are sure that John Francis is receiving his just reward for living a life as a “GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT “.  Rest in peace and give all up there a hug from us. 

Our deepest sympathy on the passing of John. He was a friendly soul, loved to visit, I enjoyed visiting with him many time while we were still attending church. 

I am so sorry for your loss .as a kid i would go home with john and spend weekends with aunt Parge, Uncle Paul and Debbie , i wiil always cherish my memories of John and his giving heart . he actually tried to teach me to play guitar (he taught me harder than i wanted to learn lol) RIP  my cousin .  Parge was so proud of you and Debbie.  



We at lifetime Learning Institute are grateful for John's service to senior citizens of Austin via teaching a popular genealogy class that he taught for years and for his stepping in to keep our website up and running when the death of our previous web master (and Director)  left us urgently searching for a replacement.  Thank you John. We will miss you.

I’m sad to hear about John. My heart goes out to Jean. I met John through the Austin Adobe user group. John hardly ever missed a meeting. He and Jean were loyal user group members. He was such a nice guy and gentleman. I feel fortunate that our paths crossed during our lifetime.

John not only taught popular genealogy courses for Lifetime Learning Institute, but also served on the Executive Committee as Technology Coordinator and managed LLI's website. He will be missed!

My heart is saddened over the sudden death of my friend, John Marostica. I first met John and Jean in the early 80's and we remained friends until each passed. It is difficult to mention John without mentioning Jean because they were such a great team, always working together. They had no children but they shared their love with their little gold pomeranian dog. John was well loved and respected by his peers. He had great character and a big heart. Besides his knowledge of genealogy that others have mentioned in their writings, he had technology experience and would help anyone with their computer. At times he held classes to help others learn a variety of software programs. My heartfelt condolences goes to those who knew and loved John. May God wrap his arms around you and give you peace and endurance during this sad time. I am sending each of you love, strength and energy. John was always there to lend a hand when we needed it. He had a kind heart and a friendly smile that we always appreciated. 

Years ago John served on the Board of Adoption Knowledge Affiliates as the president. He remained involved for many years following, providing  AV and technical assistance during our meetings and annual conferences. He was always kindhearted and good natured. He will be missed by many of us in the AKA community.

John was energetic and friendly.  He was motivated to help people in many ways.  He was president of the Williamson County Genealogical Society, and also active in the Austin Genealogical Society , Lifelong Learning Program, and Computer Club particularly the Genealogical portion.  He was a devoted husband and he and Jean did everything together.  We were stunned to hear he had passed away.  He will be missed.

John was a genealogy genius,  leading and leaving decades of memories at both the Williamson County and Austin Genealogical Societies.   He taught classes on current trends,  led boards, served as a volunteer sound engineer, and did whatever he was asked.  People remember his genealogy knowledge but also his great kindnesses and quiet (most of the time!) presence wherever he was needed.   He was truly one of the most reliable human beings on the face of the earth.  We mourn his sudden passing,  just as we mourned the sudden loss of his wife,  Jean,  and can only be pleased that at least they are together again.  May they  be at peace, together.  

John was the president of Williamson County Genealogy Society and will be missed by all of our members. He led the public meetings and the Board meetings so he was a constant presence. We all suffered with him when he lost his wife recently and now we all will try to carry on our Society without him.

May he rest in peace and the arms of his wife.
