

He is survived by his wife, Janet K. Matthews of 58 years in marriage, his daughter Jennifer L. Matthews, nieces and nephew, daughter in-law Eda Matthews, grandchildren Sibel Demirolp and Alan Haynes and his wife Julia along with their 3 children, Timothy, Melody and Shiloh. He loved being a grandpa and great-grandpa and very proud of all of their accomplishments. He was predeceased by his three sisters and two sons, John Alan and Timothy Jay Matthews. He loved his family and was a caring, loving husband and father.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and very proud of his service. His career with IBM of 34 years held many exciting roles, but his greatest role was working with the Space Program in Florida. He had the privilege of working with the astronauts and being a part of many launches. His other greatest passions were traveling as often as he could, especially on cruises with family and his photography.
His educational path besides, life experiences, included graduating from Brevard Junior College, DeVry University and receiving many awards from IBM.
He will be missed.
The family will receive friends from Noon to 1:00 P.M., Friday, November 20, 2015 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Ken Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
