John was born on July 10, 1941 on March AFB in Riverside, CA. He has one brother, James.
John attended the "Students of the Senior High Schools of the U.S. Air Forces", Izmir, Turkey as his father, Chaplin James Buford McLeroy, was stationed there. After Turkey, John rose to U.S. Navy Corpsman and was detached to the Marines in Viet-Nam.
Following this service John started training for the U.S. Merchant Marines rising to Captain. Much of his MM years were throughout world-wide shipping with his home base being the Gulf of Mexico at Morgan City, LA … never retiring.
John and Florence Raub of Port Huron and Alden, MI were married in Kilgore, TX, 1980 by John's father.
The visitation was held on April 17, 2013 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on N. Lamar Blvd in Austin. John's Military Funeral and burial was held at Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, MI.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11th at Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, 3913 Avenue B, Austin.
